Ok, but what is intuitive eating?

Intuitive eating is an evidence-based approach to health, body image, and one’s relationship with food that encourages us to use a wise mind (combining our emotional, physical, and rational selves) perspective to return to our innate inner knowing about hunger, fullness, what we want to eat, and when we want to eat. It provides an actionable framework for supporting one’s well-being in a weight-inclusive way that rejects diet-culture.

Intuitive eating’s theoretical framework contains ten foundational components:

  • Reject the Diet Mentality

  • Honor Your Hunger

  • Make Peace with Food

  • Challenge the Food Police

  • Respect Your Fullness

  • Discover the Satisfaction Factor

  • Honor Your Feelings

  • Respect Your Body

  • Find Joyful Movement

  • Gentle Nutrition

Use of this theoretical framework to reunite oneself with one’s body and its innate knowledge has been clinically proven to improve health outcomes, increase positive body image, and reduce symptoms of mental illness.

If you want to learn more about intuitive eating from the OG founders, check out their book or their website. There you will also find tons of more resources.

If you’re on-board, as an intuitive eating counselor myself, I’d LOVE to work with you. Drop me a note and let me know what you think!
